Christmas Stockings

Christmas Stockings: Easy Sewing Project

This year I decided to make us all matching stockings for the fireplace. I found this fabric on a fabric co-op that I participate in, but the fabric is also available on Amazon and I'll link it below. This fabric is printed with the images directly in the shape of the stocking so you just need to cut the shape out, add an inner fabric, then sew together. There's instructions on the fabric as you can see in the below picture. There's also some cut outs for fabric gift tags which are pretty neat.

I was considering embroidering our names on these stockings, but my children both have unique names and I wanted to make sure these could be given away or sold if I ever decide to make us all new stockings. This is probably likely, seeing that I love to sew so much and I imagine I might like to make something with my own fabric choices next time.

To cut out the fabric you have to add in the seam allowance before you cut. You don't just cut along edge of the stocking. As you can see in the picture above, I left a small edge around it.

Overall I found this easy to sew, but my inner fabric was bulky and didn't sew together well with this lighter cotton so I think that's the reason it's looking a bit wrinkly- despite my best efforts to iron them. If I was going to do it over, I'd chose an inner fabric that's the same weight as the outer fabric.

If you're interested in this particular fabric, Amazon sells it at the link below. If you search Amazon for "fabric panel" "Christmas stockings" you may find a few other options as well. Very neat option instead of getting patterns! By purchasing using the affiliate link below, you help support my blog. Thank you!

Here they are all hung up!
