Solar Panel Installation with Astrum Solar

Solar Panel Installation with Astrum Solar: Our Experience and Photos of the Process.

We've been working towards getting our home installed with solar panels, as I discussed in my previous post "Beginning our Journey with Astrum Solar and Solar Power" (Now Direct Energy Solar). We had scheduled install for Wednesday, but ended up delayed until Thursday due to really bad rain storms.
The guys showed up at 8am to begin work. They did need to get into the house to access the electrical panels, as well as the internet router. I was gone for part of the morning due to some appointments, but I left the garage open for them so they could get in as needed.

My sons really enjoyed peeking out the windows as the guys were getting up on the roof to start work.

From 8am until noon, they worked to install all of this... I believe these were the brackets to mount the solar panels onto, as well as the microinverters... which are the pieces that "read" how much electricity the panels are generating. Each panel has one behind it with Astrum.

At noon some of the guys took a lunch break (two stayed and continued working) and went to go grab the panels. We live pretty close to their business so they didn't bring them with them in the morning. The panels were way different than I expected... not that I necessarily had any expectations. They just look so big up together on roofs. But prior to install they're actually pretty small and we had an opportunity to go touch them. I wanted my kids to see them before they were installed so we gave them a little pet. Haha. They're very smooth and he told me not to worry about hurting them because they're meant to withstand harsh weather like hail. Still was super careful because... scary.

Here's the house with the solar panels completely installed. I'm really pleased with how they look.

My husband was VERY happy to see what a great job they did installing the wiring. He saw someone else's house wired (not Astrum, I assume) and he said the wiring was terrible. Very disorganized and an eye sore. This is obviously very subtlety placed and organized.

Now we have to wait for the electric company and inspection to come inspect everything, at which point everything will be finalized and connected to the grid.

Please check out my first post for our reasons for going solar, but if you decide that you're interested in solar power I'd highly recommend Direct Energy Solar. If you let them know that I (Danielle Pientka) referred you, both of us get a financial incentive when you sign up (May 2015 it looks like $500 each).

This is not a sponsored post and I'm not receiving any incentive to write this post, beyond the referral fee if you chose to sign up. I am writing this post because I think it's interesting and fun and I want to interest others in solar power.
