Are you pregnant or breast feeding? If you are, you may want to check with your health insurance company to see if you qualify for a free breast pump. I decided to call my insurance company and I found the phone number under their "pregnancy" section on their website; a FIVE MINUTE CALL (quick, easy) and TWO business days later I received it in the mail. They said it might take up to a week or two for shipment so I was surprised to get this so quick! Also, I was amazed at the great customer service via telephone... it's the fastest customer service call I've ever made. EVER. They need to give tips to my internet service provider.

So not only does my insurance company provide me with a free Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump - with Carry All, but they also included 150 Ameda 40 Count Store N Pour Breast Milk Storage Bags. I can request more milk storage bags every 90 days for a total of 3 additional orders.

I know not everyone agrees with Obamacare, but this is a good example of one benefit that really is common sense; insurance companies should have (and some were) been offering this before. Why? There are so many health benefits to breast feeding... or maybe a better way to put it is that there are so many health risks to formula feeding. Mom and baby both benefit so when it's medically possible (which it generally is) moms should be encouraged and supported in their breastfeeding journey. In the long run, supporting breastfeeding results in lower health care costs for mom and baby. Lower rates of obesity, some cancers, sudden infant death syndrome, and asthma are some of the many benefits of breastfeeding. I wanted to breastfeed anyways, but the benefit of lower rates of asthma, breast cancer, and obesity were HUGE benefits for me given a family history of all three. Plus my son and I have a very special connection, one that I'm hoping to share with our new son once he's born as well. And my son has been very healthy, eats like a champ (nursing and regular food), and has a good bond with me. It's good stuff! All for the low price of ZERO DOLLARS... not including some small costs, like nursing shirts (which aren't really necessary, just nice). So check it out!
