Trying Copycat Rum Chata from The Semi Sweet Sisters. Yum!My goal is to post every Tuesday about a new recipe that we tried that week and how we liked it. I won't share it if it's gross so I can't promise I'll have something every week. This recipe made the cut and was super tasty!

For this week, I tried the recipe below. Click the link to visit the website and print the recipe!

The Semi Sweet Sisters: Copycat Rum Chata

So excited that this was a win. This recipe tasted pretty close to real Rum Chata, except it wasn't quite as thick and creamy. This likely means it is lower fat than Rum Chata which has its benefits, but I think if you used a cream instead of milk that you would get the thickness. And a ton of fat. Again. Not necessary ideal when it TASTES right otherwise. But I do love the creamy texture of real Rum Chata.

I'm also tempted to try this with skim milk rather than whole milk- even though it will be even less creamy- just to compare. I find skim milk is a bit gentler on my stomach.

When you make this, it's going to seem like it's not very much. It is. Use a smaller pitcher than I did or you might do something crazy like double this recipe. The recipe stated that you should add in ice- I did not. As a result, I'm saving the rest in the refrigerator to drink another day. If you add ice into the pitcher and don't drink it all, you'll end up with watered down beverage if you try to save it.

Unlike Rum Chata, this really does need to be refrigerated and I'm not 100% how long it will last.

I did make a couple of adjustments because the liquor store didn't have Vanilla Rum.

I used regular Bacardi Rum and added an extra 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract. I used 2 c of Bacardi Rum to get what I believe was approximately what I'd expect for alcohol content in Rum Chata.  The nice thing is that you can adjust to your personal taste with the amount of rum.

Recipe Options

If you didn't see my past Rum Chata recipe posts, you should definitely go check them out. It'd be so easy to make copycat rum chata for some of these, such as the popsicles.
