Update Your Amazon Wish List (Hint Hint)

Make sure you update your Amazon Wish List this holiday season to make shopping easier for your loved ones.

Don't forget to update your Amazon wish list this year to make shopping easier for your family and friends. It's the holiday season and I know you're going to be busy shopping for others, but from one shopper to another- UPDATE YOUR WISH LIST. Or start one. You're not that easy to buy for. I wrote a post about Amazon Wish Lists in the past, but I figured I'd revisit this because I've been hounding everyone in my personal life to update their recently. Your turn.

If you're not familiar with Amazon Wish Lists, these are like writing to Santa... you go and shop for all the fun stuff you love, then you click "add to (your name)'s wish list" and it goes on a wish list that- if you set it to public- everyone can search and see. Or you can share a link. Your preference.

I have a wish list for both my sons and for myself, and my husband also has one. It is a LIFESAVER. In fact, it's even helpful for my 3 year old because it's a visual to "add to his list" when we're out shopping and he wants to get a toy. "Oh let's go and add that to our list." Pull up the SmartPhone. Scan the product. It pops up. Add to wish list. Piece of cake.

Now here's an additional trick. If you want something that Amazon doesn't sell, you can still link to it from your Amazon Wish List. I installed the "Add the Amazon Wish list" feature on my toolbar (computer only), then if I go to a website and see something I want, I can click the toolbar link and it will add the item to my wish list. Amazon sells mostly everything, but occasionally I see stores selling something cheaper. I usually will add notes to stuff that I want like "Hey I saw this was cheaper at _____" etc. I've noticed some heavier items are priced higher on Amazon, probably due to adding shipping costs into price of object. Furniture and major household appliances, for example. Right now we're in the market for a whole house humidifier and I believe the local stores are a LOT cheaper for same products.

Anyhow... here's a list of of some new BlackFriday categories that you might want to check out for yourself or others. I started peeking around and ooohhhh. There's technology I didn't even know existed. Ha. I really want a WeMo controlled crockpot. Sounds really cool. Our goal is to install tech in our house to control lighting, the thermostat, and other electronics by iPhone/iPad/etc so we can cut electric costs... pretty excited about this, but we're trying to find the most cost effective way to do this still. My dad has a very expensive system installed in his home that we'd never be able to afford ourselves, but it's very convenient as you can turn off everything in the house at the entry doorway when you're leaving. Awesome stuff.

I know people might say it's tacky to have a wish list or share one, but when family asks what I want and I show them they are REALLY happy to have something so easy to use. My husband and I use it to buy each other gifts all the time. Super super convenient. You just need to make sure to keep these updated... really important.

The personal benefit to using these- even if you don't want to share- is that it's nice to use it as a shopping list. I use it to keep an eye on prices of items that I want as well... and I use it to keep myself from spontaneously buying things at the store.
