Fabric Gift Bags: Revisited

Revisiting Fabric Gift Bags: How to sew these "green" gift bags for Christmas. These are reusable bags, easy to sew, and they look beautiful under the tree (or wherever you put gifts). These bags have a chalkboard tag on them so you can address the package to the recipient easily using a chalk marker!

I started making gift bags a year or two ago, and have continued to improve and add on to my collection. I use a lot of scrap fabric for this, as well as fabric that I don't LOVE for other projects... Usually stuff I got free or cheap. I'm trying to make bigger bags as I get more fabric on sale to do so.

I posted previously about this if you need instructions at the following link: http://www.diydanielle.com/2012/12/christmas-gifts-part-iv-cloth-gift-bags.html?m=0

For the most part, I'm still doing them the same, but I discovered a better setting to add the chalkboard fabric on and I am using chalkboard fabric again for tags. I gave up on them before because the chalk was wiping off too easy and it was getting everywhere. This was before the chalk markers! These beasts WILL NOT wipe off (okay you can take the harsh end of a sponge to erase) and they have no dust. They also look prettier.

Here's an affiliate link to one package of chalk markers on Amazon... there's a ton of options.

For sewing on the chalkboard fabric, I use the following settings on my machine:

I used the leftover fabric from the kilts this year to make a bunch more of these bags. I like these red plaid bags because they work for both Christmas and birthdays.

These are so much fun to put together and it's so much more environmentally friendly than using paper gift bags that fall apart or wrapping paper that gets tossed. And they're so easy to use... they can be washed, ironed, or whatever you need to do to make them look "fresh" again (although I haven't had issues with mine when I store them folded neatly).
