How I redid an old ikea toy shelf by distressing it.
I found this Ikea shelf below at the thrift store for $16... Bugs in it, ugly old wood, Starburst melted to bottom. I love cleaning up cheap thrift items and making them look great so of course CHALLENGE ACCEPTED. This actually wasn't as bad as some stuff I've found. FYI stickers come off easy with a hair dryer set on warm/hot (don't burn your fingers), if you're having trouble getting them off.

I put two coats of Tame Teal (Sherwin Williams) paint on the wood. This was leftover from painting the nursery. Doesn't it look gorgeous? I almost stopped here, but I really wanted to distress it so I did.
If you need more information on distressing, I have done a couple other distressing projects:
After giving it time to dry, I applied polyurethane. Scuffed a little after the first coat dried and then applied a second coat. I can't remember if I did a total of 2 or 3 coats.
The bins didn't match because they were yellow and orange so I ordered this spray paint that's for plastic from Amazon. Then I spray painted them black. Spray painting is SO MUCH FUN! I bought one container at the store locally, but Amazon was actually cheaper for the spray paint.
Final Pictures, all setup!
