G is Scaling the Crib

G has always had sleep issues and we tried everything. We finally broke down and did cry it out at 14 months which wasn't my ideal, but it worked fairly well. Except it sort of relies on you being able to contain the child. Ahhh... so now there's a break down in our system (completely worth the 12 months of decent sleep it bought us, given nothing else worked though). The past few nights, G has figured out how to scale the crib. And he's GOOD at it... Fast too. So I've been playing this "game" where I sternly tell him "no," point to his clock that shows it's still bedtime, put him back in the crib, and tell him climbing out isn't safe.

He was really upset about it after his nap, but eventually this happened:

Passed out after his nap. This climbing out of his crib thing has to stop!

When I mention the clock, this is the one we use. We set it to turn blue or yellow based on his sleep times.

So last night though, he upped the ante and repeatedly climbed out of his crib beginning at midnight all the way through to 6:30 when his light turns yellow. He must have climbed out 20-30x. Daddy B and I took turns putting him back and telling him the same thing. It was a long night. He took a decent nap this afternoon.

So here it is bedtime and we read our books, had our nursies, said our prayers. The clock hadn't turned blue yet but it was about 5 minutes away and I figured the extra 5 minutes would give him some time to look over his books.

I go to leave the room and he starts yelling and wildly waving at the clock (oh boy, some days it's fun to imagine what he'd say if he had more language). Seriously little dude?! That clock didn't mean anything last night at 3:30am... Anyhow I waited until it turned blue so he was fine when I left the room 2 minutes later. He cracks me up. "Hey those are your rules momma, not mine."

I think we need to make some adjustments to his sleep times and also we ordered a crib rail for the crib so we can transition it to a toddler bed. I'm pretty sure I'll regret transitioning him, but based on his speedy escape time from the crib we might as well. Just when you think you have things figured out as a parent, kids love to change things up. Ha.

Despite my concerns, I'm pretty excited to transition his crib. I enjoy developmental milestones, regardless of how disastrous they can potentially be (like climbing, which G learned to do before he started walking). Rather than buying the conversion kit for our crib (which I'm pretty sure isn't sold anymore), we ordered this:
