One of my favorite recipes is Taco Pie, which may sound gross but it's amazing. The recipe uses taco seasoning which I used to buy in the packets or as part of the taco kits you can buy that are mostly all there. A while back I accidentally started making a recipe and didn't have any taco seasoning needed so I found this DIY taco seasoning recipe and made it. It was SUPER easy to make and we already had all of the spices sitting around. On top of that, I want to use my spices more frequently so they don't expire so this is another way to make use of them. Easily.
I was SHOCKED at how much of a difference it made. It was super tasty and wasn't bright orange when I made it (see photo on left) like it is if you use the packets. To make this recipe even better, I used grass fed beef and there was almost no grease. It is just gorgeous.
I love discovering tricks like this, especially when they save me money. If I make the seasoning, then the only thing I need to buy that would normally be in those kits is the taco shells. We love soft tacos and those shells are super cheap at the store. Add salsa, shredded cheese, tomatoes, and other key ingredients for tacos and you have an easy dinner.
Here's my ingredients lined up, and my final container of taco seasoning. This is 4x the recipe amounts that pop up.
