La Leche League Donations...

How to make: diy nursing pads, wet bag, diy nursing pads, diy ruffle butt diapers. My donations for La Leche League potluck and World Breastfeeding Week.

My local La Leche League is having a potluck in celebration of World Breastfeeding Week, and it happens to be a fundraiser for the group. Baby G and I are almost to our "golden" boobies, meaning we'll have been nursing for a year once he turns 1 (of course). The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding for at least one year, and the World Health Organization recommendations breastfeeding for two years or longer. We're hoping to join the "extended breastfeeding crowd," and we're hoping to see support from our family and friends with this. The health benefits of breastfeeding and extended breastfeeding for both Baby G and I are extensive, and it seems to be working well for us. La Leche League is an amazing support in this as they provide free monthly meetings where you can get information and assistance with breastfeeding.

So I decided to do some items for them to auction. I made some nursing pads with a small wet bag embroidered with a great breastfeeding design. I also decided to donate the three ruffle butt diapers that I made a while back.

For the wet bag, I sewed together the sides and bottom of the outer cotton, right sides together. I embroidered the pocket first and added that as a layer when I sewed all three pieces together. Lay the pocket on one right side of the cotton fabric, just where you want it. Then put the other big piece right side down on top of those pieces- pin and sew. Make sure you catch all three pieces of fabric. I also added a strap that I sewed together and just inserted between the layers when I sewed.

The inner Pul (just plain white Pul) was sewn together the same way with the rubbery sides together (in this case, that side is the "right" side because we want that on the inside of the bag).

I flipped both "bags" right sides out, and inserted the Pul part into the cotton outer. I didn't add a zipper because a bag for nursing pads shouldn't have an odor and it's easier access to toss them in without a zipper. It should now look like it will finished, except the raw edges at the top. I matched up the inner and outer "bags", folded over the edges twice. and sewed around the top so there is no more raw edge. I completed it by just adding snaps to the strap and also to the bag. My bag top folds down and snaps (you can't see the snaps in the back, but they're there).

Sorry this isn't as detailed as normal, but I'm working on a lot of household stuff, prepping for our sale so I didn't have time to take pictures as I went. I needed to have this ready to deliver in a couple of days. Please let me know if you have any questions and I'll try to do my best to answer them.
