This is a silly project that I'm not sure will be useful to anyone, but I figured I'd share anyways. We had to move our bed against the wall because Baby G has been making it into our bed more often than not at night, usually sometime when we get to the point where our exhaustion outweighs our persistance to have him sleep in his crib. I sleep on the side with the wall which leaves me no place nearby to keep items that would be nice to have accessible. For example, tissue, my cell phone, an extra pacifier, etc. I end up needing to wake up Daddy B to get me those items if I need them during the night.

Our headboard is latticed so I decided that it would be helpful if I made a little pouch to go nearby at night for easy access to some of those items. I embroidered a pretty little pegasus that my brother-in-law thinks looks like a pony passing gas. Oh well, I think it's cute (Daddy B says that now it's like what has been seen cannot be unseen... it'll never look like a pony's tail again).

To begin to make one, I cut two pieces of fabric both 11x10". I embroidered one piece with my 5x7" hoop... this project may be slightly more complicated than if I had cut the fabric separately, but I needed a big piece of fabric so that it would fit on the hoop...

I took the embroidered piece and folded it in half and sewed up the edge with 1/4" seam allowance.
I did this with the other piece as well.
Then I turned each of the pieces of fabric so that the seam I just sewed was in the middle. I sewed along the bottom of the fabric now, leaving just the top open (where you'd put items into the pocket).
Here's my two pieces. One is right sides out, one is right sides in.
I put the piece that is facing right side out INSIDE the piece that is facing right sides
in- now they should have the right sides together.
For the straps, I took one pieces of fabric and folded it right sides together.
I sewed along two of the sides so there's a small opening at the top to turn it.
Turn the fabric right sides out.
Fold the edge over and topstitch.
Then I cut the strap in half... I only needed one finished edge
and this is just faster than making two different straps.
I inserted my straps in between the two pieces of fabric for the bag. Note that they need
to go between the two outer  pieces in the BACK of the fabric (so on the other side
from the embroidery). I just left the raw edge sticking up. You may want to do a better job than I did about
making them even. Mine ended up being a little lopsided. Pin your straps in place.
Stitch around the fabric, making sure to only catch the two pieces- not all four.
I backstitched and stitched again over the straps. Leave a small opening to turn.
Turn the fabric through the hole that you left.
Tuck your inside into the outside.
You still have that hole to close up.
Fold the edges over for the hole and topstitch
around your bed pocket.
Add your snaps.
Snap it onto your bed! Mine can fit a paperback book, my cell phone and some tissues.
