but it tasted HEAVENLY.
Here's the verdicts...
- Lemon Flowers: Totally can't do this without whatever special tool they had. I ended up with fairly normal looking lemons. Oh well. They still functioned as lemons for the water.
- Mudslide and Brownie Trifle: Awesome and super tasty. I did, however, have to make the chocolate pudding twice. I didn't read the instructions the first time and ended up mixing in the liquor and chocolate in the beginning. The chocolate burnt and the whole thing ended up being pretty disgusting. Also, we tried putting it over the boiling water in a separate bowl... it didn't work for us (Daddy B helped me when I still had soup after a long time). It was faster and easier to just put it in a pan to boil, take it off the minute it thickened. It's also easier to immediately pour it into the cups to set. Once pudding sets it's not as pretty to pour.
Don't add the chocolate until AFTER you take the pan off the burner. Burnt chocolate smells, sigh. I had to throw a whole batch away... it was sad. I was contemplating other uses, but I decided I hated the smell too much to keep it until I figured something out. I've recently gotten on a kick for uses for expired items though... did you know that you can give your child a bath in expired breastmilk to give them softer skin, and that there are lots of creative uses for expired makeup (check out this link and this link if you're interested)?
Oh yeah- I used non fat milk, it tasted fine. Might as well shave a few calories off somewhere.
- Chocolate Covered Strawberries, Frozen: So this is a case of the missing pinterest pin. I saw this, the description had directions and the picture was beautiful, but it led to a blog instead of the direct post. Well eff it! I had the directions in the description right?! No. Not a good idea
These were the description directions: "Fill an ice tray with melted chocolate, add strawberries, freeze. Yum. If you use dark chocolate, this would be such a healthy indulgent snack."

Also, I found that using a dry erase market on the wine glasses was easy to erase, but a fast, quick way to keep track of whose drink was whose. I probably saw that on pinterest at some point, but don't still have the link. At some point, I'll probably post another blog about how I did (or didn't) get the pan clean from the burnt chocolate from the pudding for the trifle, but so far all of my attempts have been failing. Not tonight. Tip: Do not burn chocolate, it sucks to clean up!
Thanks to all my friends for coming out for a nice evening without the babies! It's great to just sit on the patio with other women, drink, eat, and be merry. I've missed this since I moved to Maryland from Texas... my girlfriends and I used to have chill nights like this all of the time. Just hanging out peacefully together is wonderful. I don't really need to go somewhere to do something- I think it's easier to appreciate the good company when you can focus on the company, instead of the activity.
